![]() Landscape lighting surrounds the waterfront of most of the central lake and provides a stunning ambiance at night. Sidewalks have been paved for walking between the sets of lakes and make commuting from one side of the neighborhood to the other quick and enjoyable. A wooden bridge crosses the large lake near the center and connects the two adjacent sides. ![]() The lakes were designed for the community in mind. Breathtaking views of the sparkling fountains and afternoon sunsets make this an amazing spot to spend the evening. Paddle boats, kayaks, and canoes are often launched from these small docks. A covered shelter with light-brick columns and a sitting area underneath connects to a small dock for the residents to use. Several of the lakes have been bulk-headed along the sides and provide a small embankment as a result. The largest of the lakes is located in the center and houses the community recreation area. A landscaped divided median splits the entrance road with Crape Myrtle trees in the center and guides you to the main road, Autumn Lakes Drive. The main entrance is located off of Mobleys Bridge Road and takes you past two curved-brick walls that are surrounded by small shrubs. The Glass House is owned and operated by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.Situated on five stunning lakes, this elegant community features beautiful, custom-built homes. The Glass House was home to Philip Johnson and his partner, influential curator David Whitney, a place where they hosted many of the most notable architects, artists and designers of their time. It began an odyssey of architectural experimentation in forms, materials, and ideas through the addition of many new "pavilions"-Guest House, Pavilion on the Pond, Painting Gallery, Sculpture Gallery, Ghost House, Studio, and Da Monsta-and the methodical sculpting of the surrounding landscape with outdoor sculptures by Donald Judd and Julian Schnabel. The house, which ushered the International Style into residential American architecture, is iconic because of its innovative use of materials and its seamless integration into the landscape. The campus serves as a catalyst for the preservation and interpretation of modern architecture, landscape, and art and a canvas for inspiration and experimentation. The pastoral 49-acre landscape comprises fourteen structures, including the Glass House (1949), and features a permanent collection of renowned 20 th century painting and sculpture, along with temporary exhibitions. Inspired by Mies van der Rohe's Farnsworth House, the Glass House’s exterior walls are made of glass with no interior walls, a radical departure from houses of the time. The Glass House, built between 19 by famed architect Philip Johnson in New Canaan, Connecticut, is one of the nation’s greatest modern architectural landmarks.
